Frequently Asked Questions
 |
So, how does this whole thing work? What can I expect? |
 |
- After you register on this site, your information will be stored in our database.
- Bring your computer in between 9am and 12pm, Saturday morning, April 19th, 2008. Need directions?
- When you first get to the AITP Computer Repair Fair, there will be several volunteers waiting to talk with you. They will look up your registration and print off your information. We will then talk with you about your computer to make sure that we fully understand your issues, and make any notes. You will also be required to sign a waiver at this point.
- We will make sure that we have a way to contact you. We will be working on computers the entire day, so as we get ready to work on your computer, we will call you so that you can come in and sit with the technician as your computer gets worked on. We will call you between 30-60 minutes before we start working on it.
- We will have 30 stations set up, with extra chairs. So, after we call you, you can come and and sit with the technician that is working on your computer. He/she will explain what they are doing as they work.
- After your computer fixed, you will be given back to you. We will give you a quick guide on maintaining your computer's health.
- We will have CD's, software, and hardware available for purchase if needed.

What do you do if you can't make it in the day of the Computer Repair Fair, or if there are no more registrations available? |
 |
We will be hosting a Computer Repair Fair every semester. Sorry, but we can only offer free help during this one event. If you can't wait until the following semester to have your computer worked on, we have a few options for you.
- Email us. We will put you on a reserve list in case there are any cancellations.
- We will be handing out a quick guide on maintaining your computer's health. This will tell you how to get rid of spyware and viruses, and perform other preventive measures.
- We will be selling CDs with our recommended applications for keeping your computer healthy. We will be selling these for $3/each to cover the costs of making them.
- We do referrals. Many of our members are established computer professionals. We also have deals with several computer stores in the valley. Let us know what your computer problem is and we'll get you a competitive price. We do referrals for PC repair, networking, programming, and Web design.

Why are we doing this? |
 |
As a BSU organization, we are required to participate in a community service project each semester. However, since we are a computer/technology club, we have a unique skillset that we can share with the community. We have found that we can give A LOT more back to the community by hosting the Computer Repair Fair instead of traditional volunteer efforts. It seems like everyone has a "computer horror story." We have received very positive feedback for this service and we have a lot of fun doing it. |
 |
Who are we? |
 |
We are AITP, the Association of Information Technology Professionals. AITP is a national computer/technology organization with professional and student chapters. We are the Boise State University chapter, and we focus on enhancing the education experience for our members and to provide a fun environment for like-minded computer/technology students. |
